Adult Mentoring Program for Students (AMPS)

The Adult Mentoring Program for Students (AMPS) teams experienced adult student volunteers with new adult students.  This program, coordinated by the Office of Adult Students and Evening Services, is available to UNC Charlotte’s nontraditional student population.

The purpose of AMPS is:

  • to make available a support system for new and returning nontraditional students.
  • to network with other nontraditional students.
  • to share and learn about social and educational opportunities within UNC Charlotte and the community.

A peer mentor is a trusted guide, friend, and peer who assists the new student with areas of adjustment and transition into university life as a nontraditional student.  Through active listening and sharing of personal experiences, the mentor guides and advises the mentee, so there is a greater chance for student achievement.

Want to be a mentor?

We are currently seeking energetic, enthusiastic and experienced nontraditional students to become the mentor of a new nontraditional student.  As a mentor, you will be able to experience self-enrichment, community service, and networking, while at the same time, supporting other students.  As a mentor, you will assist and guide a nontraditional student who could benefit from your experiences.  The time commitment required to be a mentor is minimal.

Want to be a mentee?

We are currently recruiting newly admitted, first degree-seeking nontraditional students wishing to receive support and encouragement from an experienced nontraditional student.  As a mentee, you will work one on one with a more experienced nontraditional student as you learn successful ways to excel as a nontraditional college student

If you would like to be a mentor or mentee please fill out the appropriate application using the links below.  Should you have questions or would like to seek further information about the AMPS program; you may contact the OASES at 704-687-2596.
