Melissa LaMarche coordinates the 49er Finish
Program in the OASES. This program is a
retention initiative aimed at former, adult
UNC Charlotte students. To qualify for the
program, students must have stopped out of
the university within the last nine
years, completed at least 90 credit hours,
and have a 2.0 G.P.A. or better. The
program offers much needed assistance in
overcoming various barriers to graduation
and help in determining how to
complete graduation requirements.
LaMarche received her bachelor's degree from
the Savannah College of Art and Design in
Interior Design. Upon graduation, she worked
as an Admissions Counselor
at
her alma matter
for
9 years. She has also earned a master's
degree in counseling with a focus in Student
Development in Higher Education from Central
Connecticut State University. In addition to
her work at the University of Hartford's
Center for Graduate and Adult Academic
Services and the UNC Charlotte's OASES, she
feels she has a unique understanding of the
special needs of adult students because of
her own experiences in balancing work,
family and school.
